Spartan Chefs
Spartan Chefs Club pairs general and special education students together to cook recipes while creating one-on-one friendships and helping to strengthen social skills. The curriculum we are using provides recipes and measuring conversions as well as team/friendship building activities. Students will learn a variety of practical skills, including kitchen safety, proper manners and eating etiquette, measuring, and following the steps in a simple recipe. The students, along with their paired buddy, will implement the recipe and will then have time to enjoy their creation while talking and learning about one another.
The ultimate goal is for students with special needs to feel welcomed at school and form bonds that may not occur in a regular education classroom. In addition, the general education students will build a compassion and understanding for the varying needs of their peers.
Foods that we have cooked so far include:
pizza
mexican lasagna
salsa roll-ups
chocolate covered pretzels
frosted sugar cookies
holiday wreaths (kellogs flakes with melted marshmellow formed in the shape of a holiday wreath)
