Clean Energy and Spartan SHIELD!

Posted Thursday, May 10th, 2012 by Mr. Behrouzi

Students in Mr. C’s Science classes have been working hard researching different forms of alternative energy and how these forms of clean energy would benefit a city such as Schaumburg and/or a school like Frost. We are taking our new-found knowledge and creating Glogs (online interactive posters) to be published on the web! Students will present their glogs to their classes and we will use our research to reccomend specific types of clean energy for Schaumburg or Frost.
Stay tuned in next week to see all student glogs on Mr. C.’s website! Students will also be writing persuasive letters to Ms. Davidson or Ms. Mussman (our local state representative).

Miss Griffin is working with students in FROST SHIELD to discuss issues in bullying and to create a positive atmosphere for all students. A quote SHIELD lives by is, “If you don’t stand for something right, you’ll fall for something wrong.” Today they made “Warm Fuzzies.” This is a fun way to spread positivity and to raise self-esteem.

Better Hearing and Speech Month – “Connecting People through Communication”
Language and literacy are always hot topics and are high on all educators’ priority lists. An easy way to improve and enhance these skills is to provide your student/child with a language-rich environment. This will vary from household to household (or classroom to classroom) but is as easy as turning off the TV for an hour and engaging in conversation. Reading a book together and posing “what-if” and “why” questions is a great way to promote critical thinking and inferential skills. Becoming better communicators allows us to connect better with people – a gift that is truly invaluable!

The girls of GEMS club have their Lego Robots up and running! This week the robots learned how to come when the girls voice called them, back away when the girls held their hand up, and turn in a full square. Mrs. Corriveau and Ms. Shroyer are very proud of their future engineers!

Ms. Bostrom and Ms. Wood would like to congratulate the entire cast and crew of GREASE! You put on an amazing production and we could not be more proud of you! There will be an end of show celebration next Thursday after school in the cafeteria.

Spartan Shield has started! It is a safe place to discuss issues like bullying, self-esteem, and making smart choices. Any students are welcomed to share their stories and to enjoy yummy treats! This week, Frost Shield will see videos and read stories on bullying. They will also decide what they want to do with the club to help change the school!

Happy Better Hearing and Speech Month!

Posted Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 by Mr. Behrouzi

May is Better Hearing & Speech Month. Every year the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association takes this time to raise awareness of communication disorders and treatment. This year’s slogan, “connecting people through communication” targets the reason many speech-language pathologists love their profession; we help people become better communicators which allows them to make meaningful connections with others.

Friendly reminder: “Listen to your buds!” Please exercise caution when using personal audio technology. Keeping the volume low on iPods and other devices can help prevent noise-induced hearing loss in the future. General rule of thumb: if others can hear it, it’s too loud!

Happy Better Hearing & Speech Month!

The Fine Arts, Media, and Animals!

Posted Wednesday, February 29th, 2012 by Mr. Behrouzi

The Frost chorus is getting prepared for their upcoming concert at SHS on March 22nd. The sound that the students are creating is AMAZING and their hard work is very evident. Mrs. Farej can’t wait to hear them ALL together!

Mr. Behrouzi’s art classes have begun Pointillism, which is art done with points or dots. A great example of Pointillism is A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat, which is located at The Art Institute of Chicago.

Mr. Behrouzi’s Media class has started their new company project. The students are inventing a product, which will require a business plan and marketing strategies. The students can’t wait till they start filming their commercials for products like flying jet packs!

Last week, Frost Animal Club visited Orphans of the Storm, a no-kill shelter for dogs and cats in Deerfield. The students donated fleece blankets they made for the animals. It was really fun to get to know the animals we were helping!
