Blue Ribbon School Nomination
Frost is going to be nominated for a 2010-11 National Blue Ribbon Award!
A lot of work needs to be done to win this prestigious honor, but we are thrilled to be nominated. ISBE informed me that only sixteen schools of the approximately 4,000 Illinois schools will be nominated. We are one of only four junior highs in Illinois that will be nominated. Schools must be one of the highest performing schools in the state of Illinois as measured by state tests in reading and math to be nominated as a “High Performing School.”
This recognition makes Frost the first District 54 junior high to be nominated since the federal government changed the nomination process. In the past, schools could nominate themselves but recently the process changed so only states could nominate schools. “The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels, especially among disadvantaged students. The program is part of a larger Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching practices. Each year since 1982, the U.S. Department of Education has sought out schools where students attain and maintain high academic goals, including those that beat the odds.” – www.ed.gov
In order to win the award in 2011, we will need to submit a lengthy application and have it accepted and also make Adequately Yearly Progress (AYP). We are very confident that with your support, our amazing staff, and terrific students, this will become a reality.
Thank you, Frost community!
